Students often ask what books can be helpful in learning Jiu Jitsu. While no book can replace real Jiu Jitsu practice there are a number of books which can provide a useful supplement. Here are some:

Technique Books

• Kodokan Judo (by Jigoro Kano) has good throw and groundwork descriptions as well as complete photo breakdown of the Nage No Kata and the Goshin Jutsu No Kata.
• The Canon of Judo: Classic Teachings on Principles and Techniques (by Kyuzo Mifune).
• Kodokan Judo Throwing Techniques (by Toshiro Daigo).
• Judo Formal Techniques: A Complete Guide to Kodokan Randori No Kata (by Tadao Otaki & Donn F. Draeger) is an extremely in-depth study of the Nage No Kata and Katame no Kata.
• The Art of Holding (by Marc Tedeschi) the author has a range of "Art of" books which all have excellent photos and descriptions of techniques.
• Shimewaza (Judo Masterclass Techniques) (by Katsuhiko Kashiwazaki).
• Bo, Karate Weapon of Self-Defense (by Fumio Demura).

The new Peterborough YMCA is now open at 123 Aylmer Street South, Peterborough. Jiu Jitsu classes are now at the new facility.

The Trent & Peterborough YMCA Jiu Jitsu Clubs and Trent Tae Kwon Do Clubs get together at the end of every semester for a lovely meal and night of entertainment, often joined by our Chokushin friends. This year the date selected is the day after the Tae Kwon Do grading and the day of the Peterborough Jiu Jitsu grading. We are expecting quite a few people joining us from out of town that day which makes space even more limited than usual. As always, of course, there will also be awards presented and a few words spoken......
